Welcome to The Marketing Accelerator Podcast...featuring three insights in about three minutes. I'm Drew Dinkelacker, and today I'm speaking with Travis Cody. He's the creator of Bestseller By Design, where they use a framework to go from the blank page to a published book in about eight weeks. Travis, I have clients that I've encouraged to write a book, and I always get the, yeah, yeah, yeah, someday kind of response. Why is that?
Travis Cody: I think most people don't think that they're a writer, and, as such, it feels like this really hard, long process, and I don't have the time, right? But really time is a matter of priority, and it's a matter of not having the right team in place because if you knew what it could do for your business, it would become a bigger priority.
Drew: Oh, that's true. I use my own book as a business card for almost instant credibility. What else can your own book do for you?
Travis: I like to say that having your own book is like having this magic key that opens up a doorway to opportunities that you couldn't avail yourself of otherwise. Podcast interviews, speaking on stages, getting in front of decision-makers you might not actually be able to contact any other way. I had a book that I wrote ten years ago, got me featured on a series on the History Channel, no effort on my own. That would have never happened if I wouldn't have had a book in place.
Drew: So how do busy business people overcome the, I'm not a writer, I don't have time, conundrum.
Travis: Well, it's a mindset shift, 'cause I think too many people think about writing a book instead of authoring a book. Look, there's a lot of best-selling authors; I've never heard of anyone who said they're a best-selling writer. What's the difference? A writer is like a marathon runner, they're grinding it out on their own, it's long, it's painful. If you're an author, it's like being a quarterback of a team, you're orchestrating. You have a lot of other people doing it. Your job is just to move the ball down the field. And that's what we do at Bestseller By Design. We give you the team that can help you push this thing forward so that you're not having to carry all the weight, not having to do all of the work. And, frankly, look, today if you're a business owner and you don't have a book, it's actually hurting you, I would say it would be kind of like not having a website back in 2010.
Drew: That is a great analogy, and I have lots of clients that have books in them, and you know who you are! The market wants to hear and read your wisdom. Creating a book isn't as hard as you think. I know, I've done it. The Marketing Accelerator Podcast is a production of MarketingAccelerator.com, where we accelerate marketing leaders to higher performance and increased job satisfaction.
