The POWER of PODCASTING! Welcome to The Marketing Accelerator Podcast, featuring three insights at about three minutes. I'm Drew Dinkelacker, and today I'm speaking with Jeremy Slate, the CEO and co-founder of Command Your Brand, where they use the power of podcasting to help business leaders impact the world and their community. Jeremy, you made the decision 10 years ago to start podcasting. What have you learned are the main benefits of it?
Jeremy Slate: I can't believe it was 10 years ago first and, foremost, that's wild. I'm closing in on 40 here, but I think when you look at it, there's a couple different perspectives that could be a benefit. The number one for me, I'm somebody that's very product focused. So, Trader Joe's actually has a great podcast where they educate their consumers about products and new products, they have in their stores, so you can make a buying decision. That's one perspective. There are also companies that will take an internal podcast maybe to get their team all in the same groove, to help team morale and support them that way. Then there's the other perspective of you really want to get the right brand positioning - so you're being seen, interviewed by the right people, or interviewing the right people or having the right conversations, and you 're really grabbing that position in their mind. So, for me, I think there's a lot of different ways you could go at it as a host. If you're going to go at it as a guest, it's really becoming the educator in the space and getting really well known for helping people with your information.
Drew: So, how would I know if my business or me, myself, would be a good fit for podcasting?
Jeremy: I would say first and foremost, most people need to be doing that because they need to get their name known, right? If you're finding that people don't know who you are, or you're often having to introduce yourself a lot, that could be a major thing you're running into. Now, I would think the thing you have to look at is a lot of people have a kind of a, a mental block when they get started, that they think they're going to be Joe Rogan when they walk right out of the gate. But that's really not the case for 99.9% of people. So, it's looking at how can I create more trust for my business? How can I create better educated public, and how can I become the educator? Because if you become the source of education, your customers actually start to find you and recognize who you are.
Drew: I know that some of my listeners are starting to consider podcasting. Where would you recommend they start?
Jeremy: So, I would say if you're going to be in it as a host, be willing to commit for a year. A lot of people don't put enough time in, and I would say that your podcast should be kind of the front-end vehicle for the business you already have. For most people, it's not going to be a business in itself. I would say if you're going to go on podcasts as a guest, that's the best place to start because you're going to understand the other side of the mic, right? You're a better host if you've been a guest for a period of time. So be a guest first and become a host later on, and be a guest for a year, you know, and then later on when you're going to be hosting your own podcast, do that for a year as well, because it takes time to get established.
Drew: I can't wait to hear the new podcasts that will be inspired from listeners of this episode!
